Matt Grimes believes Swansea City's victories over West Brom and Watford have shown they can mix it with any team in the Championship, and the skipper has urged his side to push on as they prepare to host Sunderland.

With 13 points from their past six games, the Swans are now one of the in-form teams in the division, behind only Norwich City and Sheffield United during that period.

Their win over Watford moved them into the top six, and Grimes is hoping the Swans can maintain their form when they host the Black Cats in SA1 this weekend.

“I think now we’ve shown that we can mix it with the best in the league and we’re just looking to push on now,” said the midfielder.

“When you’re winning games, you just want them to come thick and fast. You want to just roll into the next one and maintain momentum.

“We’ll be full of confidence after the last one and hopefully we can get another three points under our belts on Saturday.

“It’s a quick turnaround. We got back in the early hours, and have just two days to recover and be ready to go again, so it’s relentless, but that’s what we’ve got to be if we want to succeed in this league.”

While the squad's belief in the style and system has never been in doubt, Grimes believes the young Swansea City team have developed a newfound resilience in recent weeks.

Russell Martin’s team have come from behind twice in two games to take maximum points, despite having suffered late disappointments of their own earlier in the campaign.

“I think it takes a lot out of you when you go behind and have to come back to win it, so to do that twice in two games is a testament to the mentality and character of the squad,” Grimes added.

“We all enjoy playing football under this manager.

“You hear the lads say in every interview that we enjoy our football now more than we ever have in our careers, and that is just the freedom that the manager gives us and the confidence we have to play in a way that is different to most.

“We’ve shown that we can really do it and not only play well and dominate the ball but also come to places like Vicarage Road and The Hawthorns and get results.”
