Report: Swans U23s 0 Leicester U23s 3

14th January

Swansea City Under-23s suffered their first defeat in three games after going down 3-0 against second-place Leicester City in Premier League 2.

Trialist Ali Reghba was on target twice after Admiral Muskwe opened the scoring from the penalty spot, as the Foxes recorded their fourth-consecutive league win.

The Swans held firm against their opponents during the first half, but were undone by two goals before the break and thereon struggled to find a way back into the contest.

Following a disappointing evening at Landore, they remain on 11 points after 15 games in the top flight of development football.

Leicester were aiming to maintain pressure on leaders Everton and made a purposeful start.

Just five minutes had passed when Muskwe met Calvin Ughelumba’s ball into the box, only to be denied by the crossbar from close range.

Callum Wright then saw a vicious volley tipped over the crossbar by Steven Benda, while Brandon Cooper produced a brilliant last-ditch block to deny Reghba.

Joel Asoro tested Viktor Johansson at the other end, but the Swans struggled to establish a regular threat on the Leicester goal.

They fell behind in the 45th minute with Muskwe confidently sweeping his penalty past Benda after Simon Paulet had brought down Reghba.

Having won the spot-kick, Reghba doubled the lead straight from the kick-off as he punished some sloppy play from the Swans by advancing into the area to Benda at his near post.

The visitors continued to control proceedings and went close to adding a third seven minutes after the break when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall drilled a low shot just wide of the target.

However, goal number three did arrive at the midway point of the half, as Reghba latched onto a neat through-ball by Muskwe and calmly slotted home.

The Swans responded with Botti Biabi drawing a fine save out of Johansson, while the striker and Liam Cullen were inches away from connecting with Jordon Garrick’s dangerous cross later on.

However, they just could not break down the stubborn Leicester defence.
