Report | Swansea City U18s 4 Millwall U18s 4

6th April
Morgan Clarke

Swansea City Under-18s twice came from behind to share the spoils with Millwall in an entertaining Professional Development League South encounter at Landore.

Despite falling behind to Tom Leahy's early strike, Byron Anthony's side turned things around through Morgan Clarke and Cameron Congreve.

Alfie Allen equalised for the visitors in first-half stoppage-time, while a fine individual effort from Leahy put them back in front after the break.

Nevertheless, the hosts continued to rally and Rio Campbell slammed home midway through the second half, before Joel Cotterill regained their advantage six minutes from time.

But Leahy completed his hat-trick with two minutes remaining to earn a share of the points.

Anthony made just two changes from the narrow FA Youth Cup defeat by Middlesbrough, with Ryan Bassett and Michael Murphy returning to the starting line-up

The Swans were looking to build on an impressive display against Boro, but were on the back foot early on.

Scott Butler made a brilliant last-ditch challenge to deny Oli Bate in the fourth minute, but the hosts were powerless two minutes later when Leahy beat Tyler Evans from close range.

Anthony's side responded well, though, and equalised in the 20th minute following a lovely move that culminated in Clarke sweeping home from Jacob Edwards' cross.

And they completed the turnaround four minutes later as Congreve drilled a low shot into the bottom corner; taking his tally for the season to six.

But Millwall finished the half strongly. Ezekiel Miller hit the post, while Evans did well to deny Abdul Abdulmalik's powerful strike.

However, the hosts were caught napping in stoppage time and the visitors capitalised with a quickly taken corner resulting in Allen finishing at the far post.

Millwall continued to threaten after the break and regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Leahy fired home following a quickfire counter-attack.

But the Swans responded within four minutes as the ball ricocheted kindly in the box for Campbell, who slammed it past Ryan Hammond to level once more.

After Abdulmalik rattled the post with the clock ticking down, the hosts thought they had secured all three points in the 84th minute, when Cotterill tucked the ball home from an indirect free-kick inside the box.

But they were pegged back two minutes from time as Leahy raced away to complete his hat-trick and earn a point for the visitors.
