Leroy Fer reckons Swansea City’s fans can make the difference as Graham Potter’s side target victory in their opening home game of the season.

The Swans run out at the Liberty for the first time in 2018-19 when they take on Preston North End on Saturday (3pm).

And Fer believes the Jack Army can help drive the home side on as they look to make it back-to-back wins.

The Swans kicked off the new season with a rousing triumph at Sheffield United last weekend, and new skipper Fer is hoping for another maximum tomorrow.

“It is a new league for us and Preston will be a different challenge compared to Sheffield United,” the midfielder said.

“But we have to take belief from last weekend and try to do what we did in the second half from the start against Preston.

“We have to do well at home and I think with the fans behind us, we can do that.

“The fans can be our 12th man. Everyone who loves Swansea has to try to be one. If we do that, I think some good times will come.”

Fer is unavailable for the moment as he continues his recovery from a ruptured Achilles, though an end to his long lay-off is in sight after he returned to full training this week.

The Dutchman had a smile on his face as he watched the comeback win at Bramall Lane.

“I was proud of the boys,” he said.

“It was a difficult game but in the second half we showed something that we can build on.

“We have some young players but we are gelling together. To get a win first up is a great start for us and now we have to try to build on that.”
