Leon ready for action

Leon Britton could play for the first time in more than four months when Swansea City face Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men take on his former club in an Emirates FA Cup fifth-round replay at the Liberty Stadium.

And the Swans manager has revealed that he could give Britton a taste of the action.

The stalwart midfielder is available after having an injection in his pelvis.

He has made only four appearances this season – the last of which was back on October 21 – having spent time on Paul Clement’s coaching staff and had a brief stint as caretaker boss.

“The good news is that Leon is in the 18 tomorrow,” Carvalhal said.

“He is fitter now. He is training normally and he is ready to help the team.

“He is a player with very good abilities, so let’s see during all the games we have through until the end of the season what opportunities we have to play him.

“He is ready, but so are all the other players in the 18, so let’s see.”

Britton’s return to the fold is welcome given that Leroy Fer and Renato Sanches are both unavailable due to injury.

Another midfielder, Andy King, is ineligible for the Wednesday tie having already played in the cup for Leicester this season.

Andre Ayew is another player who is cup-tied, while Angel Rangel and Wilfried Bony are also on the injured list.

But the Swans have no fresh concerns following their weekend defeat at Brighton.
