Anthony Wright | We had enough chances to get something from the game

Swansea City Under-21s head coach Anthony Wright was left to rue missed chances as his side suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Peterborough in the Professional Development League. 

Ejiro Abbey gave the visitors the lead in the first half before Thomas Woodward levelled from the penalty spot to ensure the sides went into the interval all square.

Patryk Sykut struck twice after the break to put Peterborough back in front, with Joe Davies pulling one back late on, but the Swans were unable to find an equaliser.

“We certainly had enough chances to get something from the game,” admitted Wright. 

“We could have potentially won as well with the chances that we had but overall I have to be honest and I think Peterborough probably deserved their win today, so no complaints from our side. 

“I think the way we finished the game was really positive. The last half hour I think it’s fair to say we really pushed them. It looked a lot more like us with a lot more energy and a lot more purpose. 

“It had a real feel for an under-21 game at the end and I feel that’s a real positive I’ll take from that performance.

“When I look at that game, we’ve got so much quality out on the pitch. We created a lot of opportunities in that time. I think Kai (Rhodes) has two or three good one on ones and on other day he puts them away.”

Ramon Rees-Siso was introduced as a substitute midway through the second half, making his first appearance in eight months.

And Wright was delighted to see the midfielder make his long-awaited return from injury.

“It was brilliant. He’s been tremendous through his rehab to get back on the pitch and we’ve been really excited to have him back, “he added.

“I think he really showed that today, he’s got a real appetite to play, lots of energy and he plays with a real purpose. Hopefully, now he can build his minutes up and that helps us along through the season.”
