Carter Heywood signs first professional contract at Swansea City

Centre-back Carter Heywood has signed his first professional contract at Swansea City, securing his future in SA1 through until the summer of 2029. 

Heywood has been at the club since under-nine level, signing scholarship terms prior to the 2025-26 campaign, and the impression he has made sees him sign his  pro deal while entering the second year of his scholarship.  

The 17-year-old was named Academy Player of the Season in this year’s annual Player Awards dinner, after a highly successful season competing for the under-18s and under-21s.  

His performances have earned him numerous call-ups to represent Wales this year, playing up an age-group for the under-19s in March, and for the under-17s in October and November 2025, captaining the latter for their games against Slovenia and Portugal. 

Carter recently travelled to Austria as part of the first team pre-season squad, featuring in all the fixtures against Holstein Kiel, VfL Bochum and Udinese.
