The Swansea.com Stadium will play host to the benefit match for former Swansea City captain John Cornforth on March 27, 2027, and tickets are now on sale.

Popular Whitley Bay-born midfielder Cornforth skippered the Swans to our Autoglass Trophy success in 1994, becoming the first player to lead a Swansea team at Wembley.

He made just shy of 150 league appearances for the Swans between 1991 and 1996 – and won a pair of Wales caps.

Following his departure from the club, Cornforth was granted a benefit year by the Swansea City committee of the time but, due to a number of factors, this had never actually come to fruition.

However, when John reconnected with the club through the Former Players’ Association as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of that Autoglass Trophy success, he mentioned the letter he still had from the club regarding a benefit match.

Subsequently, chief executive Tom Gorringe invited John to be his guest in the directors’ box for a game at Sunderland where it was agreed that Swansea City would honour its promise.

John and his benefit committee have confirmed the fixture will see the former Swans skipper and a number of the Autoglass Trophy-winning squad pull on their boots once again as part of a Swansea Dream Team, which will also feature the likes of club greats Leon Britton and Lee Trundle.

They will face a Wales Dream Team including legends Ian Rush, Ryan Giggs, Dean Saunders and Neville Southall.

Further details of the teams will be confirmed in the coming months.

Tickets are available to purchase with the first of three sales windows now open.

A second sales window – open to all – will then run until December 1.
