Jess Williams targeting strong home record at ThermaGlaze Ground
Swansea City Women captain Jess Williams wants the Swans to continue making the ThermaGlaze Ground a difficult place for visiting sides after they maintained their perfect start to the Genero Adran Premier season with a 3-1 victory over Cardiff Met.
Williams headed Swansea in front early in the second half as Yzzy Taylor’s side came from behind to make it three wins from three, with Caitlin Seaborne adding a third to secure all three points.
The victory also made it back-to-back wins at the Swans’ new home, following their opening-day success against Cardiff City, with a 1-0 victory away at Aberystwyth Town sandwiched between the two home fixtures.
Despite falling behind early on, Williams was proud of the resilience shown by the Swans, having placed a particular emphasis on developing that mentality throughout pre-season.
The skipper was also delighted to see another strong crowd at the ThermaGlaze Ground and believes the support from the stands will have an important role to play throughout the campaign.
“We came out looking for three points and that’s exactly what we got," said Williams.
“We really looked to build our mentality and resilience during pre-season, and I think we showed that. Conceding early obviously wasn’t what we planned, but the girls dug deep and we took our chances when they came.
“It’s always a pleasure to get a goal. As a defender, I probably care about the clean sheets more, if I’m honest, but I’m just glad I could contribute and help us get the three points.
“It’s a new ground for us, and to see the fans turn up like they have for our opening two home games has been really good. There’s been a great atmosphere around the place, so hopefully we can keep that going.
“We went into pre-season knowing that we had work to do. We want teams to come here knowing they’re going to have a game on their hands, so it’s important for us to make this a difficult place for opponents to come."
Swansea face The New Saints next Sunday, with both sides boasting perfect records after three games. Williams knows the trip to Park Hall will provide another big test, but is confident the Swans can produce another strong performance at a ground where they came away victorious on two occasions last season.
“We have a lot of confidence at the moment, but TNS will be feeling the same," she added.
“We always go up there and put in a performance, and I think when we beat them last season it was a turning point in our season. We’ll go there looking for the three points and nothing else.”
