Swansea City Under-21s' defender Kian Jenkins has signed a new contract to extend his stay at the club until June 2024.

The versatile defender, who is capable of playing on either flank, returned to action in October 2022 following a prolonged spell on the sidelines with injury.

The 18-year-old has impressed with his form since and has been rewarded with a new deal.

The Wales youth international signed his scholarship with Swansea City in the summer of 2020. Jenkins has been part of the Swans’ academy set-up for many years and he won the under-13s' player of the year award back in 2017.

Coach Anthony Wright is delighted to see Jenkins put pen to paper after the youngster endured a tough year-and-a-half battling back from injury issues.

"I'm immensely proud of Kian, and it's testament to his attitude. His application is something that anyone in our dressing room could follow," said Wright.

"He applies himself so well, does everything right and even during times of real adversity over the last couple of years he has worked diligently.

"He's never been down on himself and he's kept himself going. We've got him back on the grass over the last six months, and that's only going to be good for next season.

"But what he's shown in that time has led to this moment. He's come through the pathway system and has been at this club since he was really young.

"We're all delighted for Kian, he's been through so much, so it's only upwards from here for him."
