Swansea City midfielder Dan Watts has signed his first professional contract, securing his future at the club until the end of June 2026.

The 17-year-old has been at the Swans since under-nine level and has since progressed through the ranks, making the full-time step-up to the under-18s two seasons ago.

Watts has recently represented Wales Under-19s in their friendlies in preparation for their Uefa European Championship qualifying campaign, which gets under way later this year when Wales will face England, Austria and hosts Montenegro in the qualifying round.

Last season, the teenager netted three goals, two of which were superb free-kicks against Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City respectively.

Interim academy manager Ryan Davies said: "We’re really pleased Dan has signed his first professional deal with the club. It has been great to see him develop and grow as a player and a person throughout his journey.

"He epitomises the values we want to see in all our young players. His desire and commitment to improving are evident on a daily basis and this has allowed him to show consistent improvement in all areas of his game.

"Dan is a player who can play in all moments of the game. In possession he can dictate the tempo of the game with his ability to retain the ball under pressure and his ability to play a variety of different passes. Out of possession, he is tenacious to break up play and join in with the team when they press.

"Last season he worked a lot on free-kicks, so it was great to see him score twice from direct free-kicks towards the end of the season. His hard work this season has also seen him rewarded by the FAW, playing in the recent under-19s' fixture against Sweden.

"Dan has had great support from his family throughout his journey, we would like to thank them for all the support they have given Dan and the club. We’ve got no doubt that Dan will continue to work hard on a daily basis to continue to drive his development and progression at the club."
