Swansea City Under-23s get their season under way on Tuesday night as they take on Exeter City in the Premier League Cup at St James Park (7pm).

After seeing Professional Development League South games against Sheffield United and Coventry City called off, the Swans start their 2021-22 campaign against the Grecians in a group that also includes West Ham and Wolves.

It has proved a frustrating period for the club’s squad and staff, but coach Kris O’Leary is looking forward to seeing the hard work put in this summer put to good use.

“Everyone is really looking forward to finally playing our first game of the season,” said O’Leary.

“It has been a bit frustrating for the lads because a lot of hard work was put in over the summer by the players and staff, but hopefully we will now see that effort and commitment pay off.

“It’s an exciting competition and we’re looking to get off on the right foot with a good performance and result against Exeter.

“It will be a really good test for us.”

The Swans will be without Ben Erickson and Michael Murphy due to illness, while Harry Jones, Josh Edwards and Ben Margetson are on international duty.
