Preview | Swansea City Women v Wrexham Women
Swansea City Women host reigning Genero Adran Premier champions Wrexham at the ThermaGlaze Ground this afternoon (2pm kick-off).
The Swans will be looking to build on last Sunday's victory over Barry Town United, where braces from Chloe Chivers and Aimee Deacon secured a return to winning ways following the late defeat to The New Saints at Park Hall a fortnight ago.
The result leaves Swansea in joint second place in the table, level on points with today's opponents, who sit above them on goal difference.
Wrexham will also be looking to bounce back after suffering a late defeat to The New Saints last Sunday. It was their first league loss at the Rock since the Swans secured victory there on the final day of last season.
This afternoon's fixture will be the third game at the Swans' new home at the ThermaGlaze Ground, where Yzzy Taylor's side will be looking to maintain their perfect home record following victories over Cardiff City and Cardiff Met.
Pre-match views
Swansea City Women Assistant Manager Dan Sheehan: “We know Wrexham will be chomping at the bit to respond after last week, but for us, we want to focus on ourselves and impose our game on them.
“I think as a group we now have that resilience and character to turn things around when games get tough. That’s the progress we’ve made as a team and as individuals. We’re able to react to and manage certain situations better, which we’ve shown this season.
“You can see that the team are playing with freedom and enjoyment, and they’ve been working hard for each other.
“It’s a long season, and every single game is important in this league because the calendar is so short compared to other leagues.
“We understand the importance of Sunday’s game, but we’ll approach it like any other fixture. We want to win, and we can already see how tight the league is.
“We want to maximise our home games and turn the ThermaGlaze Ground into a fortress. We’ll back ourselves no matter who we play.
“The support from the fans has been great so far, and we’ve had lots of people through the door. Our attendances have definitely improved this campaign.
“Wrexham will bring a big following, so hopefully we can get plenty of local boys and girls along to support us and make it a real event where fans can come and watch a great showcase of football.”
Defender Caitlin Williams: “It was important for us to bounce back after the defeat to TNS, so we go into this game full of confidence after the result and the way we performed against Barry.
“The last time we played Wrexham was a big win for us. To be the only team to beat them at the Rock last season, having not beaten them for a while before that, was a really nice way to round off the campaign.
“Wrexham are a very consistent team. They’ve brought a few new players in this season, so it will be interesting to see where they’re at. We know what to expect in terms of their shape, but we’ll take the game as it comes.
“We don’t want to get to the end of the season and wish we could have done more in these early stages, so it’s important to pick up points early in the campaign.
“Wrexham always bring a good following, so it will be great to have as many Swansea fans as possible supporting us on Sunday. The ThermaGlaze Ground is a new home for all of us, and it’s important to build an atmosphere and make it a home ground we can be proud of.”
Last time out - April 5, 2026
Swansea City Women rounded off their 2025-26 Genero Adran Premier campaign with a superb victory over champions Wrexham at the Rock in April.
First-half goals from Ellie Lake and Aimee Deacon proved enough for the Swans, with Katie Barker pulling one back just past the hour mark as Swansea secured their first league win in five matches and their first victory over Wrexham that season.
The Swans made a bright start and took the lead after just six minutes when Lake’s delivery into the box looped over Liz Craven and dropped beneath the crossbar.
The visitors thought they had doubled their lead when Stacey John raced onto a long ball and finished well, but the offside flag was raised.
Yzzy Taylor’s side continued to threaten and found a second just before the break. Chivers delivered a cross into the box, where Deacon showed great composure to lift the ball over Craven and into the net.
However, Wrexham grew into the game and reduced the deficit just after the hour mark. Hannah Snape’s through ball found Barker, who raced through and converted from close range.
The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Forkings was in inspired form, producing a number of key saves, including a crucial stop to deny Barker in a one-on-one situation.
Swansea held firm to secure all three points and end their league campaign on a high, returning to south Wales with a deserved victory.
