Swansea City Women’s midfielder Rachel Cullen dubbed their 4-0 win at Barry Town United the best possible birthday present as she and her teammates rounded 2023 off in fine fashion.

The Swans made it eight wins from nine games in all competitions. Stacey John-Davis fired them with her fifth goal in her last three appearances, before forcing defender Nia Davies into an own goal with a great cross.

Katy Hosford made in 3-0 with 10 minutes to go, before turning provider as she gave Robyn Pinder a simple finish late on to make it four.

Cullen, who celebrated her 33rd birthday on Sunday, was delighted with three points and felt the win gave her side a good platform to build on heading into the new year.

“It’s the best present that you can ask for really,” said Cullen.

“We played really well, we didn’t just win we dominated and I think we really deserved it.

“Every game we seem to be getting better and better and that’s all we can ask for and we want to hit the ground running after Christmas.

“It was important for us to get more points on the board in the league before the end of the year, we’ve done great in the cups, but our main focus is the league, we want to catch Cardiff so it was important to win.

“We are used to teams sitting deep against us now, but we just need to be professional and patient and we know that we have the quality to score the goals we need.

“Hopefully 2024 will be a massive year for us, this is the start of it now, and we won't give up."
