Swansea City Under-21s suffered a heavy defeat on the road against Ipswich Town in the Professional Development League.

There were five goals in each half. The hosts were 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes with goals from Nico Valentine and Matty Roberts, with Maliq Cadogan halving the deficit not long after.

Ipswich extended their lead before the interval thanks to a Gerrard Buabo strike, but the Swans soon fought back as Ben Lloyd slotted home almost immediately to ensure the visitors trailed by just a goal at half-time.

Cameron Congreve was on target after the restart to make it 3-3.

However, the Tractor Boys went on to score four more goals through Leon Ayinde (2), Buabo and Chuks Uzor to claim the three points at their training base.

There had been three changes to the Swansea side that staged a stoppage-time comeback against AFC Bournemouth last time out.

Iestyn Jones - who made his second start at under-21 level - came in for the injured Dan Watts whilst Lloyd and Glory Nzingo returned to the starting line up.

But Swansea endured a difficult start  as Valentine struck in the sixth minute, with teammate Roberts adding a second just four minutes later.

But the Swans halved the deficit with Cadogan netting his third goal in two games.

The goals kept coming towards the end of the first period. Buabo slotted home to make it 3-1, but Lloyd was on target barely 60 seconds later to reduce the deficit to one goal for the second time.

The visitors hit back immediately after the restart to level the proceedings at Playford Road, Congreve bringing the Swans back on terms.

But the scoreline didn't stay level for long with the hosts once again gaining the lead as Ayinde netted Ipswich's fourth of the afternoon.

And the hosts quickly doubled their lead with Ayinde netting his second in five minutes.

Buabo would then complete his own brace with a calm finish at the near post, scoring the hosts' sixth of the fixture.

Ipswich went on to round off the scoring in the closing stages, substitute Uzor tapping home following a fine team move.
