Swansea City Under-21s extended their three-year unbeaten run at the Swansea.com Stadium with an emphatic win over Huddersfield Town.

Braces from Joel Cotterill and Morgan Bates, along with goals from Aimar Govea and Kyrell Wilson, ensured the Swans maintained their long sequence without defeat at the stadium; a streak dating back to the 2022-23 season.

The Swans were relentless in the first half, racing into a five-goal lead in just 30 minutes in front of a thrilled home crowd.

The intensity dipped in the warm conditions in the second half, but the Swans added a sixth when Morgan Bates netted his second just before the hour mark.

The only negative for the hosts came 15 minutes from time, when Blair McKenzie was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card.

But there was little doubt of the outcome as the home side seized control from the off.

Cotterill tested the goalkeeper with a strike from distance in the opening moments, and the opener arrived before the 10-minute mark when Morgan Bates pressed to win the ball before firing a shot past Ellis Litherland.

Just two minutes later, the Swans doubled their lead through Govea, who pounced with another superb high press to win the ball, before racing clear of his marker and slotting past Litherland.

The Swans continued to dominate the early proceedings, with Wilson nearly adding a third after he got onto the end of a low ball in by Govea, but his effort deflected over the bar.

Wilson did find the back of the net minutes later, making a driving run at the Terriers defence, before beating his man and placing his effort into the bottom corner.

A fourth goal was scored by the hosts before 23 minutes had elapsed through skipper Cotterill, who struck a low effort past Litherland following a Wilson delivery into the penalty area.

The Swans continued to create numerous chances, with Morgan Bates forcing Litherland into a strong save to keep the deficit at four.

However, the fifth goal came just before the half-hour mark with Cotterill tapping the ball into the net from five yards out following a failed clearance from the Huddersfield defence.

The visitors had their first attempt on goal late in the first half, but George Iorpenda’s header from a corner rose over the bar.

The second half began a much more even affair, but it only took the Swans 14 minutes to add their sixth of the afternoon with Morgan Bates heading home from a handful of yards out following a corner kick.

The best chance of the match for the visitors arrived in the 73rd when Sahil Bashir drove into the box, with his powerful effort striking the right-hand post.

The Swans did play the final 15 minutes with 10 men, after McKenzie was given his marching orders following a second yellow card, but the outcome has long been decided.
