Ross Stewart | It was great to score, but the manner of the win was really important
Ross Stewart was pleased to have opened his Swansea City account, but the striker was happiest of all about helping his new club return to winning ways in emphatic fashion against Blackburn Rovers.
The Scotland international rounded off the scoring as he lashed home a rising left-footed strike to mark his first Swansea start with a goal.
Stephen Eustaquio, Joseph Opoku and Filip Lissah had put the Swans in control before the interval as they responded superbly to the disappointment of defeat at QPR.
And Stewart, who joined the Swans in the summer having previously been at Southampton, was delighted to be part of an excellent all-round team performance.
It was great to make that first start and to get a great win which we are really happy about, and bouncing back so strongly from defeat last week,” he said.
“It shows a lot about that dressing room and hopefully it sets us up for a good week
“I think it was more about the team winning than about me getting off the mark to be honest. I always want the team to do well first and foremost and first half I thought we were really, really good.
“We hunted them down, we pressed the life out of them and we were on top for the majority of that half. We went in deservedly 3-0 ahead and you know that you have to treat the second half properly because it can be a dangerous scoreline if you don’t keep your levels high.
“We were able to get the fourth goal, which killed the game, and it was a really good result and we were able to bounce back.
“For the goal itself, it was one of them where it’s broke for me, I had been desperate all half to get a chance and when it broke to me there was only one thing on my mind, which was to shoot.
“I just hit it with my left foot, was trying to get it on target and thankfully it went in at the top corner. It was a great finish and obviously I am happy to get off the mark and it was a big goal at that point in the game and got us home.”
