Stephen Eustaquio | We showed real toughness and togetherness

Stephen Eustaquio felt Swansea City underlined their togetherness and resilience with the manner of their victory at Lincoln City.

The Canada international scored his first goal for the club in the comeback win, netting what proved to be the clincher with a deflected strike from the edge of the area.

That completed the turnaround after the Swans had trailed to Reeco Hackett’s penalty at half-time.

Moussa Yeo levelled matters when he turned in Melker Widell’s cross and, following Eustaquio’s goal, the visitors defended resolutely with the likes of Lawrence Vigouroux, captain Ben Cabango and Marko Stamenic to the fore.

Victory moved Swansea top of the table and, while knowing a lot of hard work lies ahead in a long season, Eustaquio felt the manner in which they adapted and stood up to the physical, direct threat of their hosts showcased the spirit that has helped drive a strong start to the season.

“It took us time to settle, it was a very tough game,” said the summer signing.

“They came with a strategy of putting long throws and long balls in the box, looking to pick up second balls and trying to cause chaos.

“But in the second half when things started to open up we really showed our football and we showed that we are capable of dealing with these types of challenges.

“We knew at half-time that the chance to was still there to win the game if we could make a good start to the second half. Moussa got us halfway there with the first goal and when it went to 2-1 it felt like the game was more on our terms.

“We won duels, we started playing in their half, we showed the qualities we have and then we had the togetherness to see the game out.”
