Stephen Welsh earns first Scotland call-up as eight Swans selected

Eight Swansea City players have so far been called up for international duty this month, including a first senior Scotland selection for defender Stephen Welsh.

The former Scotland Under-21 captain has impressed during the opening weeks of the season and will be part of Scotland’s squad for their opening UEFA Nations League.

Welsh could face Swansea team-mate Zan Vipotnik, who has been named in Slovenia’s squad for their upcoming fixtures. 

Swansea captain Ben Cabango has also been selected by Wales, with Craig Bellamy’s side beginning their Group A4 campaign against Portugal, Denmark and Norway. 

Jisung Eom has been called up by South Korea Under-23s for their Asian Games campaign and scored a hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Qatar, while Lawrence Vigouroux and Stephen Eustaquio will represent Chile and Canada respectively.

New Zealand duo Elijah Just and Marko Stamenic have both been selected by the All Whites, with Just looking to build on his goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Adam Idah will also join up with the Republic of Ireland squad.
