Vitor Matos | Our mentality and belief stays the same
Vitor Matos has challenged his Swansea City side to make sure they bring the mentality and performance levels from recent home outings with them on their travels.
The Swans take on high-flying Hull City at the MKM Stadium this afternoon, with the Tigers having won six of their last eight league games to move to within touching distance of the automatic promotion places.
That means Swansea, despite their fine upturn in recent from, will start as underdogs in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
But head coach Matos insists he and his players are confident results away from home will improve.
"It's a different opposition and a different challenge where we go away, and we all want to compete in every stadium. That's what we look for, that we play all the games with the one mentality; and that is to play to win the game," he said.
"For different reasons we have not been able to win some of these away games, but I think we have put in some really good performances. We know, of course, that we need to translate that into points, into wins, and that's what we are looking to do in this next one.
"The approach is the same, the mentality is the same, it needs to be if you want to be a team that can reach the standards we want. I think that's quite important to have this consistency in terms of behaviour.
"We want to press wherever we go, we want to be dominant wherever we go. We know it is a tough test they have good players like Oli (McBurnie) and Liam (Millar) who was in the Liverpool academy when I was there.
"They are a good team, they are really competitive and really dangerous with the ball when it comes to attacking vertically. So it is a game where we need to be focused for 90 minutes and be really good with and without the ball.
"But we have belief, and that isn't only about results, that is about what we do every day in our training sessions and how the team is developing and growing.
"We want to develop that winning mentality, and if you want that you need to have it in your performances at home and away."
