Head coach Vitor Matos says Swansea City have to manage momentum in games more effectively after seeing his side fall to a 3-2 defeat against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Matos and the Swans could not have wished for a better start in the west Midlands, having led 2-0 before 11 minutes had elapsed.

Zan Vipotnik’s deft finish after just 12 seconds – making his ninth goal of the season the second-fastest in Championship history – put the visitors ahead, and Ethan Galbraith’s fierce strike quickly doubled the advantage.

The Swans held that lead at the break, but the hosts hit back as Aune Heggebo scored twice in seven minutes to level matters.

And Jayson Molumby’s close-range finish condemned the visitors to defeat.

“I think frustrated is the right word in this moment, and we need to find our way to get back on track again,” he said.

“I think we can take the first half as a starting point. I said after the last game that there are a lot of improvements that we need to do and in the first half we saw some of them.

“But we need to do those things more consistently. We are not happy with the situation but this is what we need to fight and that’s the next step.

“We started well with good energy, but in the second half we started losing too many duels and second balls.

“That gave the momentum to West Brom, and when you are in this competition you know this is a big part of the game.

“We need to be more competitive on that, and we just got deeper and deeper and we started offering the spaces to them.

“It is not easy for us, it is not easy for the supporters. But if we are all together we will get out of this situation”
