Vitor Matos | We showed our intensity and desire

Vitor Matos saluted the spirit of his Swansea City side after they returned to Championship action by coming from behind to beat Norwich City 2-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Canaries had led at the interval through Jacob Wright’s composed finish, but the Swans responded in fine fashion after the break.

Moussa Yeo scored for the third game in succession after he kept his calm to fire home after Adam Idah had got to a Josh Tymon cross before Norwich keeper Vladan Kovacevic.

Then Idah headed home what proved to be the winner as he glanced in Melker Widell’s delivery.

It was the third time this season the Swans have come from behind to win, and head coach Matos was pleased with how his side responded, particularly at the end of an international break where a number of players had racked up considerable mileage and minutes with their countries.

“I felt we were good all game and had control, but in the first half we were not quite precise enough in some of our decisions. We were maybe a little rusty technically, but we know we were doing the right things to have more chances and control the game the way we wanted,” he said.

“We had clear chances in that first half, then their goal came from a mistake but I feel like we grew from that moment.

“We bounced back from it, we have had a lot of players flying around the world and arriving close to the game which made for an interesting preparation, so again the mentality of the togetherness of the team made a big difference in that situation.

“That’s what these boys have doing so far, so we are really happy. It’s important win to have this good feeling after so long without a game.

“Of course, we would prefer not to have to be behind in games, but when you have that spirit you understand how to keep the momentum and to grow into moments and situations.

“That resilience shows the character they have and all the effort they are putting in. I am pleased we turned it around again, and had that intensity, desire and control to find the right option in some key moments.”
