Vitor Matos | We showed a reaction and our identity
Vitor Matos hailed the reaction of his Swansea City side after they returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Stephen Eustaquio, Joseph Opoku and Filip Lissah had the home side three goals to the good at the interval after an outstanding first-half display, with the full-back scoring his first senior goal for the club.
Ross Stewart then marked his first start for the Swans by lashing home his first goal, sending a rising left-footed strike into the roof of the net.
The hosts could easily have won by an even greater margin such was the extent of their dominance, and having seen his side produce a response after a heavy defeat at QPR last time out, Matos was full of praise for his squad.
“That was the reaction we wanted, but even more important was the quality of the football we played,” he said.
“We wanted to react with a win, but it is always nice when you show the reaction that has your identity, the desire and the maturity.
“That, from the boys, says a lot about the team. I am really happy for everyone. There were a lot of positives, especially from a good first half.
“But, as I said, we were not the worst team in the world last week, and we are not the best team in the world now.
“We had a week to prepare, to analyse and to really make a commitment to our strengths. We put all of that on the pitch, along with plenty of desire and will, so I think it has to be one of the best (performances) since I am here.
“We absolutely deserved that result, and now we have to be ready to go again on Tuesday.”
