Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor was pleased with her side’s performance and the opportunity to give game time to more players following their 4-0 victory over Cardiff Met in the Genero Adran Trophy.

A brace from Aimee Deacon and a Stacey John effort gave the Swans a three-goal lead at the break, before Emily Richards wrapped up the place in the quarter finals from a close-range finish with nine minutes to play.

The Swans also ended Cardiff Met’s flying start to the season, with Met having won eight in a row after being relegated to the Genero Adran South at the end of last season.

Taylor was pleased to give valuable minutes to all members of her squad and was particularly delighted with the variety of goals her team produced, whether through well-worked team moves or moments of individual brilliance.

“It was a positive performance,” she said.

“We knew what we needed to do to ensure we got into the next round, it is always nice to take a little break from the league and the cup gives us the opportunity to maximise minutes across the squad, and see some solid performances.

“It was also important for us to get a clean sheet, it is something we asked from the players prior to the match and at half-time but it was also great in an attacking sense to see a variety of different goals scored by a variety of goalscorers.

“Every competition you enter, you want to go as far as possible. We reached the final last year, but now we’ll focus on the next round and see who we face, hoping to go even further this season.”

Taylor’s side will now look to claim bragging rights when they face Cardiff City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Sunday, with the Swans boss saying her players are not only excited for the occasion but also relishing the chance to play in front of the fans at the stadium.

“We can’t wait for the derby next week. We have spoken about the importance of it this week and how our focus now shifts to Cardiff.

“It is a great opportunity for us to go and perform in the Swansea.com Stadium again, which is a really special place for us, so we will work hard this week in training and then hopefully bring a strong performance next weekend.”
