Yzzy Taylor | We did what we needed to do
Swansea City Women head coach Yzzy Taylor praised her side’s ability to find a way to win after they battled to a 1-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.
The Swans claimed their second victory of the Genero Adran Premier season, with an Aimee Deacon penalty shortly before half-time proving the difference between the two sides.
It was a physical contest throughout, with clear-cut opportunities at a premium, although Chloe Chivers and Caitlin Seaborne both went close as Swansea looked to add to their advantage.
The result continues a positive start to the campaign for Taylor’s side, making it back-to-back wins to open the season, and the head coach was pleased with how her squad stood up to the physical challenge.
“It was a deserved three points today,” she said.
“Aberystwyth is always a tough place to come and we need to make sure that whenever we come here, we match them physically. It was a tough game, but we’re really happy to come away with all three points.”
“We deserved to go in ahead at half-time. I think we could have had a penalty just before that as well. They are always strict in what they do and every time we come here we have to show fight in the game, and today was another example of that.
“It was a real squad effort. We made changes today and I never doubt what our players are going to give, whether they enter the pitch as a starter or as a substitute.
“Different games in this league call for different types of wins and I think today was an example of that. We did what we needed to do and found a way to get the three points.”
Deacon’s decisive spot-kick was her first goal of the new campaign, with the forward winning the penalty before stepping up to convert into the bottom corner.
And Taylor was delighted to see the youngster rewarded for her contribution to the Swans’ attack.
“It was a deserved goal for Aimee [Deacon]. She is great at what she does and what she brings to the team, and for such a young player she leads our attacking line so well,” added Taylor.
“She got her reward today and I think that was demonstrated by her stepping up to take the penalty that she won. It also shows the belief the squad have in her to convert it, so I’m really pleased for her.
“The momentum stays with us now and it’s really positive to begin the season with two wins.
“We always take things one game at a time and we’ll now prepare and look ahead to Cardiff Met, but it’s been a really positive opening two games for us.”
