Report | Barry Town United Women 0 Swansea City Women 4
Swansea City Women got back to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over Barry Town United Women at Jenner Park.
Braces from Chloe Chivers and Aimee Deacon saw the Swans pick up their fourth win of the season, responding in impressive fashion after last weekend’s defeat to The New Saints at Park Hall.
The Swans raced into the lead after just six minutes, with Chivers producing another trademark long-range finish before doubling her tally six minutes before half-time.
Deacon would then add two more goals in the second half, with a well-worked finish followed by a penalty to complete her brace and take her tally to three league goals of the season, after Amelia Herbert was shown a second yellow card for the foul that led to the spot-kick.
Swansea made a superb start as Chivers unleashed another effort from 25 yards after being played in by Taite Trivett, with her strike flying into the top corner beyond Molly Arnesen.
Barry grew into the game after conceding, but Swansea continued to look dangerous going forward, with Aimee Deacon coming close early on after being played into the area by Sammy Wynne. Her initial effort was parried away by Arnesen.
The hosts had their first effort on goal when Jemima Lister struck from 25 yards, but her effort was comfortably held by Amelia Forkings.
Captain Emily Freeman was next to test the Swansea goalkeeper, with Forkings once again getting down well to hold a low effort.
Swansea continued to threaten, with the second phase of a corner seeing Lauren Davies square the ball into the path of Caitlin Seaborne, whose first-time effort was straight at Arnesen.
Forkings was called into action again as Barry looked to respond, doing well to get a touch to Erin Murray’s effort at the back post following a superb cross-field ball from Chapman and turn it behind for a corner.
The Swans doubled their advantage six minutes before the break. Trivett won possession high up the pitch before finding Chivers, who drove into the area, cut onto her right foot and fired a fierce effort beyond Arnesen.
Barry thought they had pulled one back minutes into the second half, when Murray’s free-kick crashed against the crossbar, before Lister reacted first to head home the rebound, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Swansea continued their strong start after the restart and soon found a third, with Trivett providing her third assist of the afternoon. The winger sent a superb low ball into the area, which was met by the arriving Deacon, who showed great instinct to get in front of her defender and slot the ball home.
Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Amelia Herbert, who had only come on at half-time, was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Maddy Murray inside the area.
Deacon stepped up from 12 yards and made no mistake, sending Arnesen the wrong way to complete her brace and put the Swans firmly in control.
Swansea continued to create chances with the numerical advantage, with Chivers denied a hat-trick by an excellent save from Arnesen. The Barry goalkeeper got down quickly to parry Chivers’ effort around the post after the forward had driven into the area.
Yzzy Taylor’s side comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure all three points and complete a convincing victory at Jenner Park.
