Monet Legall v Aberystwyth

Swansea City Women’s penultimate game of the Genero Adran Premier season ended with a young side securing a draw against Aberystwyth Town at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

Amy Jenkins had given the visitors  the lead after just eight minutes, getting hold of a loose ball to open the scoring.

But the Swans responded quickly as Monet Legall’s third goal of the season levelled matters; her low shot from the edge of the box beating the goalkeeper.

Interim coach Chris Church had made six changes from Sunday’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City, with first starts handed to under-19 players Meg Roberts, Imogen Harris and Rhian Williams, while young goalkeeper Opal Rayner was between the sticks.

The hosts had a tough start, and Jenkins gave Aberystwyth the lead early, the forward seizing on a loose ball and firing home into the net.

The Swans looked for a quick response, Sammy Wynne got away a shot from the edge of the box, but it was deflected just over the bar.

However, the home side levelled just four minutes later, Legall’s low strike from just outside the area found the bottom left corner for her second goal in the last three games.

From there the Swans took control of the contest, Williams’ ball forward set Robyn Pinder through on goal before a last-ditch tackle prevented the striker getting away a shot.

Emily Thomas also came close to putting the Swans ahead as her delivery from deep struck the bar.

The second half proved to be a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances.

Harris tried her luck from distance as she cut in from the left hand side, but her effort failed to trouble the Aberystwyth goalkeeper.

Substitute Chloe Chivers then burst down the right before getting away an effort on goal, but her tame effort was easily held by the Sophie Steele.

Chivers continued to look to look a threat, again surging down the right flank before delivering a low cross to Jazz Guymer, but she was dispossessed in the six-yard box by the onrushing goalkeeper as the teams played out a fifth-straight draw in meetings between them at Llandarcy.
