29th May
First team

The Swans suffered a third consecutive defeat as they went down 2-0 against Newcastle United at the Liberty.

It was the first time since January 2003 that the Swans had lost three times in a row as Papiss Cisse’s double put them to the sword in SA1.

Brendan Rodgers’ side started brightly with Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was recently crowned the Premier League Player of the Month for March, dragging an effort wide inside the opening two minutes.

And the Swans were punished soon after as Cisse latched onto Yohan Cabaye’s precise pass before drilling his shot beyond the dive of Michel Vorm.

The hosts responded well to falling behind and dominated possession but were restricted to long-range efforts by their stubborn opponents.

Sigurdsson and Joe Allen saw fierce 25-yard efforts beaten away by Tim Krul before the visitors put the game to bed in the 69th minute.

Cabaye and Cisse combined once more as the striker accepted a perfectly weighted pass and looped the ball over the helpless Vorm into the top corner.
