24/11/2018 15:00 v Norwich City

24th November
First team

The Swans were sent crashing to defeat by Championship leaders Norwich City at the Liberty Stadium.

Graham Potter suffered his heaviest defeat since taking over this summer as Daniel Farke’s side were far superior in SA1.

The Swans boss made one change to the starting XI that beat Bolton before the international break, with Kyle Naughton taking the place of scorer Barrie McKay,

The Canaries were ahead after just 16 minutes as Teemu Pukki’s cross was turned into his own net by Mike van der Hoorn.

Just 25 minutes were on the clock when the visitors doubled their lead, with the Swans at fault once again.

Keeper Erwin Mulder played a goal-kick short to Bersant Celina on the edge of the box, and when the Kosovan looked to turn he was dispossessed by Emiliano Buendia, the latter fired home with the Dutch keeper left wrongfooted.

Not content with 2-0, the visitors piled on more misery for the Jack Army as Marco Stiepermann tapped home Maximillian Aarons’ fine cross.

The Swans did pull one back in the 41st minute through Daniel James, with the winger scoring his first goal in senior football after Naughton and Oli McBurnie were denied by Tim Krul.

At the break, Potter sent on Martin Olsson and Wilfried Bony for Jay Fulton and Leroy Fer, but that failed to inspire the comeback the home faithful were hoping for.

Norwich made sure their three points were safe on the hour mark as Pukki turned and placed his low shot into the bottom corner to fend off a home fightback.

The Swans kept plugging away, though, with Bony heading wide from a corner before the Ivorian sent Connor Roberts in on goal, but he couldn’t find a way past Krul.

Despite the hosts’ advances, Norwich comfortably held on to retain top spot.

Defeat leaves the Swans on 26 points after 18 games.
