Swans Women and Girls academy round up

Four Swansea City Women academy sides were in action over the weekend, with plenty of action across the age groups.

Here's how each side got on in this week's academy roundup.

Under-13s

Swansea City Women’s Under-13s continued their unbeaten league start with a 2-0 victory over Barry Town United on Saturday.

The Swans opened the scoring in the 17th minute, with Eva May Salmon finding the net for her third goal of the season.

Roy Thomas’ side then doubled their advantage in the second half, as Mia Price scored her first goal of the campaign to seal a third league victory of the season for the young Swans.

The result leaves Swansea second in the table with 10 points from four matches, ahead of Saturday’s trip to league leaders Cardiff City.

Substitutes: Ava Tipuric, Loti Adams, Mia Price, Lily Davies, Maisie Brown, Talitha Appleby.

Under-15s

The Swans Under-15s were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Barry Town United.

Swansea took the lead early on after winning possession in midfield through Ava Carman, who played Arianwen Budden down the left. Budden advanced before delivering a ball into the area, where Olivia Gill was on hand to convert from close range.

The Swans doubled their advantage before half-time. A long ball forward saw Imogen Phillips hold up possession before playing Gill in on the right. Gill looked up and squared the ball for Indie Roberts to score her second goal of the season.

Barry halved the deficit just before the break when a goal kick was not dealt with, allowing Eily Jenkins to find space just outside the area before guiding her effort past Poppy Thomas.

The visitors found an equaliser five minutes into the second half, with Ela Thomas embarking on a solo run past several Swansea players and into the penalty area before slotting home.

Barry then completed the turnaround late on as Thomas grabbed her second of the afternoon, winning possession high up the pitch before firing a low effort into the net.

The result leaves the Swans in fifth place in the National Academi Under-15s South ahead of Sunday's trip to face Cardiff City.

Under-16s

Swansea City Women’s Under-16s were knocked out of the Bute Energy U16s Welsh Cup on Sunday afternoon, losing 7-6 on penalties to Pontypridd United following a 2-2 draw.

The hosts made a strong start, with Holly Cummins scoring twice inside the opening 18 minutes to give Pontypridd a two-goal advantage.

However, the Swans responded positively and halved the deficit just eight minutes later through Arianwen Budden.

Swansea continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded just before half-time, with Molly Silcox finding the net to bring the scores level at 2-2.

Neither side could find a winner after the break, sending the tie to a penalty shootout.

The Dragons ultimately prevailed 7-6 from the spot to secure their place in the next round, bringing the Swans’ cup campaign to an end.

Under-19s

The Under-19s suffered a 6-3 defeat against Barry Town United at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

Swansea took the lead in the sixth minute when a Caitlin Sweeney delivery found Ellie Gibbins, who brought the ball down for Lily Stabler to strike from just outside the area, sending her effort over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Barry equalised soon after, with a loose pass finding Hope Rees, who advanced before striking past Chloe Rees to level the scores.

The visitors took the lead four minutes later when Ava Coomer's long-range free-kick was initially saved by Rees, but Millie Breen was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Barry added a third in first-half stoppage time, with Breen grabbing her second of the afternoon with an effort from outside the area to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.

However, Swansea responded almost immediately through Lowri Jones. A long ball over the Barry defence from Stabler found Jones, who showed quick feet to shift onto her left foot before powering a shot past Mollie Murgatroyd.

The Swans drew level ten minutes into the second half when Jones raced onto a lobbed ball from Ada Woodman, this time shifting onto her right foot before slotting past Murgatroyd.

Barry regained the lead in the 68th minute when a long ball was not cleared by the Swansea defence, allowing Hope Rees to run through on goal and finish past Chloe Rees.

The visitors extended their advantage in the final 10 minutes, with Coomer scoring her second of the game before Breen completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot.

The result leaves Richard Harris' side in sixth place, with two wins from four league matches, ahead of Friday's trip to Cascade Youth Club.
