Aimee Deacon delighted to make her mark against Barry Town United
Aimee Deacon was delighted to play her part as Swansea City Women returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over Barry Town United at Jenner Park.
The forward scored twice after the break to complete a brace and help the Swans secure their fourth win of the season, with Chloe Chivers also finding the net twice in an impressive attacking display.
The victory was particularly important after last weekend’s narrow 4-3 defeat to The New Saints, with A. Deacon pleased to see the team respond in emphatic fashion.
“The team worked really hard,” said A. Deacon.
“I think in the first ten minutes we put them under pressure and brought the game to them. With Chivers getting her goal so early on, it really set us up nicely for the rest of the game.
“To score early can really settle the team, and Chivers did what she does best.”
A. Deacon then made her own mark on the game in the second half, first finishing off a well-worked team move before converting from the penalty spot to put the Swans firmly in control.
For the striker, getting on the scoresheet was a particularly pleasing aspect of the afternoon.
“As a striker, you really want to get on the scoresheet and help the team out, so I’m really happy that I could contribute,” she added.
While the attacking display provided plenty of positives, Swansea’s clean sheet was equally important, with A. Deacon praising the defensive and midfield efforts behind the result.
“The clean sheet was really important. I think the defence and midfield were amazing and we all did our jobs well.”
The victory also gives the Swans confidence heading into another important test next weekend, when Wrexham visit the ThermaGlaze Ground.
“It was really important for us to bounce back after last week,” said A. Deacon.
“I think we were unlucky not to get anything out of the game, and now we just need to keep pushing forward. Scoring these goals will give us more confidence going into the coming weeks.
“It gives us confidence going into next week against Wrexham, so it’s important that we train well and hopefully that means we can come away with a result next Sunday.”
