Alan Sheehan | Let's finish things off on the right note
Alan Sheehan wants Swansea City to round off the 2024-25 season on a high, and make sure Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton get the send-off they deserve against Oxford United at the Swansea.com Stadium (12.30pm).
Sheehan, who was appointed Swans head coach on a three-year contract earlier in the week, has taken 23 points from 36 during his time in caretaker charge.
It means the home side are guaranteed a top-half finish as they prepare to face a U’s side who have secured second-tier survival with a game to spare.
Swansea will also say farewell to two of the club’s finest servants of this century.
Swans and Wales great Allen will hang up his boots after an illustrious and distinguished career for club and country.
Defender Naughton, meanwhile, has been a club stalwart for over a decade, racking up over 300 appearances in total.
They will both get a rapturous reception from the Jack Army, and Sheehan hopes an emotional day can end with a winning outcome.
“It’s the last game, we have achieved our goals but it is important we create a party atmosphere,” said Sheehan.
“Anyone who knows me or has been around the training ground recently will know we want a performance, we want to give the fans something to party about.
“Every game is different, it will be a test but we want to go into and hopefully have a really enjoyable day.
“We owe it to the fans, we can see, feel and hear the bond between the team and the supporters.
“The momentum has been really good, the training has been exceptional. We are in a good place, we want to build a winning culture and go and win the game.
“We have guys like Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton who have done so much to set the culture, I am so grateful to them and we want to make sure we send them off on the right note.
“So, we want that party atmosphere, we’re going to have a big crowd, but we want the performance and the result.”
