Alan Sheehan has urged Swansea City to embrace the challenge of facing Premier League opposition when they take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup tonight (8pm).

The Swans’ reward for getting through home ties against Crawley Town and Plymouth Argyle is a clash with the two-time European champions at the Swansea.com Stadium.

They take on a Reds side who finished seventh in the top-flight last term, and who are under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou after the Australian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo during the international break.

The Swans will start as underdogs, but Sheehan feels it is a test for his players to look forward to.

“We want to go and be the best versions of ourselves, we know it is a very tough game but we want to be competitive in every game we play, and we want to win every game we play,” he said.

“It’s a cup game, we have had to come through two games to get here and we want to make the most of the hard work we have put in and try and make it three wins from three in the competition.

“We are playing an excellent team who qualified for Europe and are managed by a top class manager.

“I’ve seen his teams play from when he was at Spurs, they won a trophy there and were exceptional in their first season in the league.

“He is a manager that has been there and done it, a good test for me to come up against someone with that level of experience.”
