Alan Sheehan | These are games that can create special memories
Alan Sheehan believes he and his Swansea City side have the chance to create more memories for the Jack Army when they host Manchester City tonight (7.45pm).
Pep Guardiola’s side visit the Swansea.com Stadium for the sold-out fourth-round tie as firm favourites given their dominance of English football over the last decade.
But the Swans have seen off Premier League opposition already this season, having defeated Nottingham Forest in thrilling fashion in the last round; coming from two goals down to win 3-2.
That was an unforgettable night in SA1 and, while Sheehan acknowledged the side of the challenge ahead, he knows just how important such occasions are for Swansea City as they take on a team with whom they have recent history.
The Swans suffered a 3-1 defeat in the FA Cup in 2021 against the Citizens, while they were very unfortunate to lose 3-2 in the quarter-finals of the same competition two years earlier.
“There’s been a few whispers in the group about those previous games,” said Sheehan with a smile.
“When the draw was made a couple of the lads were saying they have been a bit unfortunate in one of those games, with maybe a dubious goal, so I have heard about those games.
“But that just shows that there are memories to be created in these games, and that is what cup football is all about.
“It would be massive for everyone if we can get a result. But we also recognise we are talking about one of the world's giants at the moment, and they've been an incredible team for a number of years now.
“We get the chance to face them here, in our stadium, I think we have to try and be as competitive as we can and hopefully have a really good night.”
