Alan Sheehan has urged Swansea City to take another step along the road in their progression and development as a team when they host Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup this evening.

The Swans host Argyle at the Swansea.com Stadium in the second round of the League Cup, having got to this stage courtesy of the 3-1 victory over Crawley Town a fortnight ago.

Since then, the Swans have taken four points from league fixtures against Sheffield United and Watford, with those games featuring spells where the energy and intensity of Sheehan’s side caused no shortage of problems for their opponents.

They now face a Plymouth side who picked up their first points of the season at the fifth attempt against Blackpool at the weekend, but with Tom Cleverley’s men having knocked out Championship opposition in the last round with a win over Queens Park Rangers, Sheehan has made clear he expects his side to approach this game with the right mindset.

"It was only a handful of months ago that we were playing a league game at home against Plymouth, so that underlines it will be no easy task,” said the Swans boss.

"They have a head coach with Championship experience, so we will need to be well prepared and ready.

"We will consider whether to make changes, because we want to go and be competitive in every game.

"We also want to give minutes to players who deserve them and are pushing for them but there will be no handouts.

"We will be as competitive as we possibly can be. It's one game at a time and we know it will be no easy task.

“We have looked a strong team in periods in games, so we want to be consistent and create that kind of culture where we can become a good team.”
