Alfie Mawson completes Swansea City switch

30th August

Swansea City have today completed the signing of Barnsley centre-back Alfie Mawson for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.
The 22-year-old defender becomes the club's sixth senior signing of the summer after putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Swans.
Mawson moves to the Liberty having built a reputation as one of the most gifted young defenders in the Football League.
Having racked up no fewer than 58 appearances for Barnsley last season, Mawson helped the Tykes win the Football League Trophy and the League One Play-off Final in 2015-16, scoring seven goals and scooping all the accolades at the club's end-of-season awards.
He enjoyed an equally impressive spell on loan at Wycombe Wanderers during 2014-15, whom he helped reach the League Two Play-Off Final after scoring another seven goals in 50 appearances for the Chairboys.
London-born Mawson began his career with Reading before joining Brentford in 2010. He had loan spells with Maidenhead United in the Conference South then in the Conference Premier with Luton Town and Welling United.
