Amelia Forkings | We're improving game by game
Swansea City Women goalkeeper Amelia Forkings believes her side are firmly in the Genero Adran Premier title race following their 5-2 victory over The New Saints at Park Hall.
The Swans opened their phase two campaign with an impressive win, courtesy of a quartet of superb goals from top scorer Chloe Chivers and a header from defender Eilish Mitchell.
There were challenging moments for Swansea to navigate, particularly in the second half, with Forkings producing a series of important saves to preserve her side’s advantage before two late goals in the final 10 minutes sealed the result.
The victory leaves Swansea third on 33 points with five league games remaining - four behind Wrexham and five adrift of leaders Cardiff - while holding a game in hand over the Bluebirds.
Forkings praised the squad’s togetherness, and believes they are continuing to improve at a crucial stage of the season, insisting they will have a strong say in the destination of the title come the end of the campaign.
“It was a really strong team performance and we worked incredibly hard to secure the three points," said Forkings.
"Chivers was absolutely sensational - her goals were huge for us and it was a 10-out-of-10 performance from her. As a team, I thought we worked things out well together. There were difficult moments, but we stayed united and by the end of the game it all came together. It was a great performance all round.
“The momentum we’ve built is really important. Six wins in a row is fantastic, but we want to keep pushing forward. There aren’t many games left now and I genuinely feel we’re improving with every match.
“Everyone is talking about Cardiff and Wrexham as the top two, and that’s fair enough, but we’re not far behind.
"At this stage of the season, one result can change everything. To come to TNS - which is a tough place to go - score five goals and take three points shows the level we’re capable of. We’re putting ourselves in a strong position to have a successful end to the season.”
