Andre Ayew dedicated Swansea City’s South Wales derby win to the Jack Army after a sold-out Liberty Stadium roared Steve Cooper’s team to victory.

Ben Wilmot grabbed the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, heading home Wayne Routledge’s cross following a clever short corner routine.

Ayew led the line for the Swans as part of a reshuffle in the final third by head coach Cooper, and it worked as the Ghanaian and Wayne Routledge were among those to turn in excellent performances.

After a difficult run of results on home turf, victory over Cardiff was the perfect tonic and was jubilantly celebrated by the home support.

And Ayew was glad to put smiles back on Swansea faces.

“The derby is so important for the club and the fans were unbelievable, they really pushed us,” he said.

“We have had some difficult results at home recently so we really needed the fans behind us, especially in this fixture.

“We know what this game means to the fans, so it was an amazing victory. For us the three points were very important but most importantly we have won this game for the Jack Army.

“This result was for all the Swans fans across Wales and the rest of the world and we hope this won’t be the last time we make them smile.

“There were so many fans in the stadium today, I wish every game could have the same atmosphere as it really boosted us.

“Hopefully we can start a winning run and continue the unbelievable atmosphere at the Liberty.”
