Ben Cabango hopes he and Joe Rodon can go from strength to strength as a defensive pairing for Swansea City over the remainder of their play-off push.

Cabango and Rodon have started the last four league games for the Swans, most recently keeping a clean sheet against league leaders West Brom.

The duo are the first Welsh centre-half pairing to start a league game for the Swans since 1997, and their showings – as well as those of full-backs Jake Bidwell and Kyle Naughton – have won praise from head coach Steve Cooper.

Rodon – the senior partner – only made his Swans debut in August 2018 but wasted no time making an impact for club and country.

Cabango is now following in his footsteps, and enjoying the experience of playing alongside the Wales international; not that he is taking his place for granted with the likes of Ben Wilmot and Marc Guehi waiting in the wings.

“It’s really good to play alongside him. West Brom was our fourth game together; we’re starting to bounce off each other and learn each other’s game,” he said.

“I think we’re learning how we both play. Getting a clean sheet against West Brom shows that we’re getting better and better together.

“Hopefully, the more games we play together, the better our relationship will get and that will be a bonus for the team.

“There are a lot of quality centre-backs in the team and it’s good for me and Joe because we’re getting pushed every day.

“We know our spots aren’t guaranteed; we have to work hard and perform.

“Joe and I are in the team right now, but we’ve got to work hard to keep our places.”
