Swansea City defender Ben Cabango has undergone successful surgery on his ankle ligament injury and is expected to return to full training before the start of the 2022-23 season.

The Wales international suffered the injury in a poor challenge by Jamal Lowe in the 3-3 draw with Bournemouth, and was eventually forced off after initially playing on.

A scan on his right ankle confirmed an early end to his 2021-22 campaign, and also ruled him out of Wales’ five summer international in June, including the World Cup play-off final.

The 21-year-old has since seen a specialist and had an operation on Monday.

“Ben has undergone a small operation,” said head coach Russell Martin.

“Rather than leave it, they've decided to operate on it now in case we leave it and he needs one further down the line.”
