Ben hails Euro adventure

28th February

Ben Davies saluted a hugely successful Europa League campaign after the Swans' continental adventure came to an end in Naples.

Garry Monk's side exited the competition at the last 32 stage following a 3-1 defeat to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo.

It was a campaign which took in trips to Sweden, Romania, Spain, Russia, Switzerland and Italy, with the highlight no doubt a stunning 3-0 win in Valencia.

The Swans had performed admirably against Napoli - a side only in this competition after missing out on the Champions League knockout stages via goal difference.

Monk's side dominated the first leg at the Liberty, and then backed that up with another fine display in Naples.

And while Rafa Benitez's side progress to face Porto in the last 16, Davies has hailed a fine European campaign, and believes it will bring plenty of benefits.

"It has been an enjoyable experience, and a tough one too given the fixtures we have had," said the Wales international.

"But this may happen once in a lifetime for some of us so it's a great experience and something we will always remember.

"It is disappointing in the end, but looking back we have to be very, very proud of our performances.

"And we can be proud of this performance (against Napoli) too.

"To be 1-1 at half-time is not an easy job at all. We did the hard part, but it was unfortunate not to have taken our chances.

"They played Champions League football before this, and we were written off before the first whistle in the first leg.

"But we come away with the respect of a lot of people after these performances, and I think it will help us too in the league."
