Ben Wilmot believes his partnership with Ben Cabango is progressing well after the pair recorded their first Championship clean sheet.

The pair, with a combined age of just 39, made just their second league start as a pairing in the goalless draw with Barnsley.

They have just 17 second-tier appearances between them, and they were the youngest centre-half partnership involved in any Championship fixture on Sunday.

The duo have been thrust into the side with Joe Rodon and Mike van der Hoorn currently out injured.

But they are relishing the challenge, and building on their initial outings together in the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.

“It’s good for the club and it’s great for me and Ben to get league experience at such a young age,” said the on-loan Watford defender.

“There are not many centre halves our age in this league playing week in week out so it’s brilliant.

“We enjoy playing with each other and I think we work well together. We have played together in the cup beforehand so we are used to each other’s company and we’re both enjoying our football at the moment.

“Forming the partnership in the cup before playing in the league was handy and has helped us both but we’re both ready and confident in the league and with each other.

“Like they say, age is just a number so we are doing what we can to stay in the team.

“There is not much room for error in this league and you will get punished for any mistakes you make so you have to have a level head and learn from your mistakes.

“I think myself and Ben have been doing alright and on the whole we are happy with another clean sheet.

“The more games we play the better we will get and it’s great to get more experience every week. We are both thoroughly enjoying ourselves at the moment.”
