Boss pays tribute to Roque

Paul Clement made a point of praising Roque Mesa after the midfielder seized a chance to impress in Swansea City’s goalless draw with Bournemouth.

Roque Mesa was handed only a second Premier League start since his summer move from Las Palmas.

And the Spaniard produced his best display yet in Swans colours, putting in a fine shift at the base of midfield.

Afterwards, Clement – unprompted – saluted the £11 million close-season recruit.

“I will say something specific about Roque Mesa because I have been asked a lot about him this season,” the Swans boss said.

“I thought he did a really good job for us and that was a very encouraging sign from him.

“The more he plays like that, the more he is going to be on the pitch.”

Roque Mesa’s lack of game-time has been a talking point so far this season, but he can expect more action at Chelsea on Wednesday having shone against the Cherries.
