Byers delighted with double

21st November

George Byers is targeting more goals for Swansea City Under-23s after adding to his tally for the season in the Premier League 2 victory over Arsenal.

The 21-year-old scored twice as the young Swans claimed an impressive 3-1 win at Landore for their first league success since mid-October.

Byers netted eight times in all competitions for the under-23s last season but had only found the net once so far this season, in the 5-2 defeat against West Ham in August, before the Arsenal double.

And with a busy period of matches coming up the midfielder admitted he was delighted to find the back of the net once again.

“I’m really pleased. It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “I’ve got three goals now but that number needs to improve.

“I’m assisting quite a few but scoring is very important, especially to help the team as well.

“We’re chuffed with the win. I think we’ve had a sticky patch recently and Arsenal was a very important game.

"We knew what we had to do and even though we had a sticky 25 minutes, I think we came out on top and turned the game around.

“I think the win will give us the confidence boost that we need. We can take that into what is going to be a busy few weeks.”
