Byers happy to be back

2nd August

George Byers was pleased to mark his return from injury in style as Swansea City Under-23s beat Llanelli Town on Wednesday.

The midfielder was instrumental in the young Swans’ 2-0 victory at Stebonheath Park, opening the scoring after just three minutes before providing a brilliant assist for Courtney Baker-Richardson in the second half.

It has been a frustrating period for Byers, who was in first-team contention at the start of pre-season only to sustain a calf injury prior to the tour of Germany and Austria.

However, the 22-year-old says that setback made him more determined to respond in the best possible way.

“The injury didn’t come at a great time with it being just before the pre-season tour,” he said. “But things like that happen and you’ve just got to bounce back from them.

“Obviously, being involved with the first team and playing with better players has been good for my experience and I can feel the difference in my game.

“I was happy to get out there and get some minutes in the tank. To get a goal and an assist was good for me.”
