Byers striving for more

George Byers insists there is plenty to play for as Swansea City Under-23s prepare for their final three Premier League 2 games of the season, starting with Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday (1pm).

The 21-year-old midfielder scored twice to help the Swans' development side to an impressive 3-1 win over title-chasing Leicester City this week, taking his tally to eight goals this season.

The victory lifted the Swans back up to fourth in the Division One table with Byers adamant they still have more to give.

“We are taking each game as it comes, but there is still a lot to play for in these final three matches,” Byers said.

“Monday was a big win for us. We were disappointed with the defeat at Everton, but we hit back in the right way.

“I was pleased with both the goals I scored. My finishing from outside of the area is something I’ve been working on, thankfully it came off this week. And Kenji (Gorre)’s assist was superb for me to get the second."

Byers' form may have been good, but he remains hungry to make a strong impression in what remains of the campaign.

“I am pleased with what I have achieved for the team this season, but I am always striving for more," he added.

“The season is not over. I want more goals, I want more assists, I want to help the team finish as high as possible.

“If I keep doing that you never know where you could end up. If a chance at the next level does come, then I want to be ready to take it with both hands.”
