Caitlin Seaborne delighted to net first competitive Swansea City goal

Swansea City Women defender Caitlin Seaborne was delighted to score her first competitive goal for the club as the Swans maintained their perfect start to the Genero Adran Premier season with a 3-1 victory over Cardiff Met.

Seaborne headed home Swansea’s third goal of the afternoon at the ThermaGlaze Ground, meeting an excellent Lauren Davies delivery to help secure a third consecutive league victory for Yzzy Taylor’s side.

The defender had already found the net during the Swans’ pre-season victory over Penybont, and was pleased to get off the mark in competitive action, although she was quick to highlight the collective effort behind the victory.

“I was buzzing to get my goal. I’ve been pushing throughout pre-season to get on the scoresheet, so it was great to finally get one.

“It was a great finish from Jess [Williams] as well to put us ahead with a really good header, and there was some great pressing from the team to force the own goal.

“It’s great to get the goal, but it was a big team effort and a great ball in from Lozza [Lauren Davies] as well.”

The Swans had been forced to come from behind after Lily Moralee-Hughes gave the visitors an early lead, putting Swansea behind for the first time this season.

Taylor’s side responded just two minutes later to restore parity, before producing an improved second-half display which saw Williams and Seaborne find the net to secure all three points.

Seaborne was particularly pleased with the resilience shown by the Swans to respond to a situation they had not previously encountered during the opening weeks of the campaign.

“It was a big shift from the girls.

“It took us a little while to get into the game, especially with them scoring early, but I thought we grew into it really well. We haven’t gone behind yet this season, so it was positive to see how we responded after conceding." She said.

“We went in at half-time and, after a few stern words from Yzzy [Taylor], we came out in the second half and put in a great performance.”

Victory over the Archers followed wins against Cardiff City and Aberystwyth Town in Swansea’s opening two fixtures, leaving Taylor’s side with maximum points from their first three Genero Adran Premier games.

While delighted with their start, Seaborne believes the Swans must continue to focus on each challenge as it comes.

“To go unbeaten in our first three games is great. We’re in a really positive position at the moment, but there are other teams in the league scoring a lot of goals as well.

“It’s important that we take it game by game and keep looking for the three points.”

“TNS have had some great results over the past few weeks and have scored a lot of goals, so we’re expecting to face a really good side.

“It’ll be a good battle, but I have full confidence in the girls that we’ll be up for the challenge. Hopefully we can get a few more goals ourselves and come away with another positive result.”
