Swansea’s leading local businesses gathered at Morgans Hotel to 'Celebrate the City' as part of the fifth City Business Network (CBN) event of the season.

Beginning at Morgans Hotel, event-goers visited the recently-opened Swansea Arena for a behind the scenes tour and then headed to Swansea University’s Singleton Campus, to uncover some of the ground-breaking research happening on our doorstep.

After viewing the Arena's outstanding architecture and learning about its relevance to the history of the city, the second stop was at Swansea University's Awen Institute which brings together creative industries, researchers, older people and older people’s stakeholder groups to co-produce new solutions through research and development for the increasing older generation demographic.

Researchers at Swansea University presented their revolutionary ideas to attendees which included how virtual reality, machine learning and mobile phone apps can improve quality of life for the elderly.

Attendees then returned to Morgans Hotel, where they were treated to a two course lunch and a presentation from Kartay’s Ian Morgan and Swansea BID's Russell Greenslade, who spoke about the current work they are undertaking to transform areas of Swansea's city centre.

Chair of biomedical sciences and professor at Swansea University Gareth Jenkins said: "It was really important for us as a University and a faculty of Biomedical Sciences to engage with the region.

"And as a university embedded in the region, it is important to create those links and build relationships with other leading businesses in the area.

"I hope everyone who attended enjoyed our exhibits and learned a bit about our innovative research, a huge thank you to the Awen Institute helping put on this tour.

"Today was just a snapshot of what our students and researchers are developing, we'd love to welcome everyone back in the near future to discover more."
