Swansea City Women midfielder Chloe Chivers believed their season-opening win over Barry Town United Women had its foundations in the hard work put in across pre-season.

The Swans secured a 4-0 win over 10-player Barry as they got their Genero Adran Premier campaign off to the perfect start.

Chivers, 26, netted a brace as she scored a stunning free-kick in just the second minute, before coolly claiming her second with a composed finish just past the hour mark.

Chivers was delighted with the team’s performance, and emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards to keep picking up results.

“I’m really happy with the result, we had a great pre-season with eight weeks of hard work that led us to this point. I’m delighted to get on the scoresheet and it’s even better with the three points,” she said.

“Everyone knows I do love a free-kick and I just thought I would test the keeper early on and thankfully it paid off.

“My second goal was really good play from the team, I saw an opening and thankfully Stacey left it and I was able to calmly put the ball away.

“We didn’t want to let up regardless of how many the opposition have on the pitch and we want to keep the standards high and we were able to add a few goals at the end which was a really good result for us.

“We can take plenty of positives, we have to keep driving our standards week in week out, it doesn’t matter who the opposition is. We will stick to our gameplan and the results will come.”
