Club connections | Millwall
As Swansea City get set to face Millwall, we take a look back at some notable figures to have worn the colours of both clubs.
Richard Duffy
Hailing from Swansea, Richard Duffy came through the ranks in SA1 before making his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in 2001 under Colin Addison.
He made 29 appearances for the Swans between 2001 and 2003. While he did not feature in the starting line-up for the crucial final-day victory over Hull City, Duffy was a recognised member of Brian Flynn’s senior squad that season.
His impressive performances as a teenager soon attracted Premier League attention, earning him a move to Portsmouth in January 2003.
After loan spells with Burnley and Coventry City, as well as a short return to Swansea, Duffy joined Millwall in 2009 and went on to make 12 league appearances for the Lions.
Jason Price
Jason Price played a key role in Swansea City’s 1999-2000 Third Division title triumph. Having previously featured for Aberaman, he moved to Swansea in July 1995 and made his league debut in a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in January 1997.
He helped the Swans reach the Third Division play-offs in 1998-99 and went on to make 144 League appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals, before joining Brentford in August 2001.
Following spells with Tranmere Rovers, Hull City and Doncaster Rovers, Price joined Millwall on loan in March 2009 before making the move permanent that summer. The winger went on to make 23 appearances for the Lions, scoring four goals.
Adebayo Akinfenwa
A notable name to have featured for both clubs is forward Adebayo Akinfenwa. Top goalscorer for Torquay United in 2004-05, he joined Swansea City that summer to reunite with former boss Kenny Jackett.
He made a lightning start to his Swans career, scoring on his debut against Tranmere Rovers, with the strike also marking the first competitive goal scored at Swansea’s new Liberty Stadium.
Akinfenwa went on to make a lasting impact with the Swans, scoring in the 2006 Football League Trophy final victory and helping Swansea reach the League One promotion play-off final in his first season.
He later joined Millwall in November 2007, but failed to score in any of his seven appearances for the club.
Steven Benda
Steven Benda came through the ranks at 1860 Munich before making the move to Swansea City in 2017.
Initially featuring for the under-23s, the goalkeeper joined the first-team setup during the 2018-19 season following an injury to Erwin Mulder.
Benda gained his first taste of senior football during a loan spell with Swindon Town in 2019, making his debut in the EFL Trophy before making his Football League debut four days later.
He later spent time on loan with Peterborough United, making his debut against West Bromwich Albion in January 2022.
Returning to Swansea, Benda established himself as the club’s number one during the 2022-23 season, making 21 appearances before suffering a significant knee injury in January 2023.
He spent the first part of the 2025-26 season on loan at Millwall, making nine appearances, before a loan spell with Feyenoord and a summer move to Nottingham Forest.
Jermaine Easter
Jermaine Easter joined Swansea City on loan from MK Dons in November 2010.
The Cardiff-born striker made his first start for the Swans against Barnsley on December 28 2010, marking the occasion with a goal as Swansea continued their push for promotion to the Premier League.
Easter’s spell at the club was brief, with MK Dons recalling him in January 2011. He made six appearances during his time at the Liberty Stadium, scoring once.
He later joined Millwall on loan in 2013, scoring with his first touch on his debut before making the move permanent that summer. He went on to make 45 appearances for the Lions.
Kenny Jackett
Kenny Jackett played a key role in Swansea City’s rise through the divisions, taking charge in 2004 and guiding the club to promotion from League Two in his first full season. He also led the Swans to the Football League Trophy and FAW Premier Cup before departing in February 2007.
Jackett then took charge of Millwall in November 2007, beginning a successful spell at The Den. He guided the Lions to promotion to the Championship in 2010, securing a 1-0 play-off final victory over Swindon Town at Wembley.
His impact at both clubs was significant, helping Swansea lay the foundations for their subsequent rise while establishing Millwall as a Championship side.
